Map of Alberta with Site Locations
Born in Iceland in 1853, Stephansson brought his family to the Markerville area in 1889.
There, withinthe view of the Rockies, he homesteaded - farming by day and writing by night.
His prolific literary output has since gained him renown as one of the greatest poets in the
western world.
Restored to its 1927 appearance, the Stephansson home offers a glimpse
of Alberta's Icelandic heritage and the life of this pioneer-poet.
Enjoy pioneer life as costumed guides provide interpretive programs
and house tours. Experience the spinning of wool, baking, household
chores or a more leisurely poetry reading; all as it was in the 1920's.
You can even become a volunteer and assist with house programs and events!
